Jane Clarke

Hello!
Thanks for clicking on my PictureBookDen page.

I’m passionate about picture books. My stories have been matched with some wonderful illustrators. The best moment is seeing the pictures for the first time. I hope someone somewhere is treasuring a crumpled copy of one of my picture books the way that I treasure the books I read to my sons when they were small. Now I'm a proud grandma of four small granddaughters, it's a huge joy and privilege to read picture books to them.

My latest picture books (2017) are

illustrated by Britta Teckentrup

and the first two books in the Sky Private Eye series illustrated by Loretta Schauer.

You'll find activity sheets for these and some of my others on Picture Book Den's free downloads page.

Here are some of my other picture books:

illustrated by Emma Dodd

illustrated by Migy Blanca
illustrated by Charles Fuge

Older picture books include the award winning Gilbert the Great, Gilbert in Deep and Gilbert the Hero, all brilliantly illustrated by Charles Fuge, too.

Then there's Stuck in the Mud, illustrated by Garry Parsons

and Knight Time and Knight School, illustrated by Jane Massey. You may have heard them being read on CBeebies.

You'll find other picture books of mine on my website

Here's my new series of toddler board books, illustrated by Georgie Birkett

As well as picture books, I also write early reader books and reading scheme stories

and I have ghost written  for several series including Dinosaur Cove, which I really enjoyed writing a lot as my hobby is fossil collecting.
I'm working on several picture book texts ( I write at least 4 for every one that gets published) and my new Dr KittyCat series, which now has 6 books published in the Uk, and USA editions not far behind. I've just finished writing number 10.

Which explains why these days I can sometimes be found in a bookshop dressed up as a furry first aid cat.

My newest publication is the first book of a science series called Al's Awesome Science, for Five Quills, which I'm very excited about. It's illustrated by James Brown. There will definitely be 3 in the series, and hopefully more.

You'll also find lots of my poems published in many children’s anthologies.

It's great fun being a full time children’s writer and I love to visit nurseries, infant and primary schools to share my books and talk about being an author and to run poetry and/or creative writing workshops for children.
