I think I can tell the story from their perspective and have them understand human speech. Would love to know if you feel this is possible.
Thanks so much for your help.
Regina M.Regina Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18001205517939372604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3758609568631190155.post-33666367146705406152015-09-11T15:24:35.265+01:002015-09-11T15:24:35.265+01:00True, Jonathan! It's not the face and arms and legs that bring vegetables and suchlike to life; it's character and emotion and purpose, ie STORY.Pippa Goodharthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17709422048047155208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3758609568631190155.post-39066299985166128772015-09-07T15:15:11.882+01:002015-09-07T15:15:11.882+01:00You've reminded me that when I was an editor I...You've reminded me that when I was an editor I got a lot of those vegetable characters sent to me, too. Weird! If you take a look at some self-publishing on Amazon, there's a lot of this going on. this is a very good reminder to would-be picture book authors out there to avoid those static characters and the alliteration. Just giving something arms, legs and a mouth and thinking it makes a story isn't enough. I've just ordered Hug Me for my great-niece. I think it's going to be a classic. I love the way you're clearly quoting that text from beloved memory. Much read picture book texts do stick in the memory as poetry can. That just shows how very important it is to get the text RIGHT ... she says as she struggles with a text which she knows at the moment is far from being that! In a rather wonderful illustration of them speeding off in a convertible the text reads: "The Dish got a taste for the High Life. We bought a motor car. The Dish shopped for jewellery and furs. Soon our money was all GONE."
