Although as any starting PB writer would do I wrote and I’ve published many stories with animal characters but nowadays I am consciously choosing children of colour to be protagonists because we have more animal characters than children from all backgrounds. I totally understand the appeal - kids are big on animals too. But it gives them extra to dig into the non-fiction side too. Lovely post!
